Welcome to our Food-Centric Summer Roadtrip of 2017! This summer, we’re traveling all over the country to our different markets to do what we do best… eat! Follow along with us as we nosh on great food and enjoy the sites!
First stop is our lovely hometown of Baltimore, MD. Fun fact: Did you know Baltimore is the birth-city of the Star Spangled Banner? That’s right! In 1814, a lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, wrote a poem entitled “Defence of Fort M’Henry” about the ongoing War of 1812. The words of the poem were later turned into lyrics for the song we know today as our national anthem.
Okay, that’s enough history… we’re getting hungry! Here is our perfect day in Baltimore, planned just for you!
For breakfast, you can’t get anymore crowd pleasing than Towson Hot bagels, or as we call it, THB. The bagels, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, along with whatever fixin’s you may like to add, will for sure fuel your day of adventure. Perhaps you’re one to eat in bed? We totally feel you. Get it delivered to your hotel or Airbnb!
Antique and ghost hunting in Fells Point
We can’t totally say this for sure, but it’s rumored that one of Baltimore’s oldest and storied neighborhoods, Fells Point, is haunted. Whether or not that’s true, it’s undeniable that the neighborhood is richly filled with the old as well as the new. Walk among the cobblestones (be careful!) to find your next treasure in one of many antique shops. Perhaps your affinity to history will lead you into some of the country’s oldest bars! Don’t forget to take an ice cream break on the pier and look out on Baltimore’s harbor.
Crush it at lunch
There are many options for lunch around town, especially if you decide to stick around Fells Point (we don’t blame you). Just make sure that wherever you end up, you order yourself the city’s signature drink, a crush. Locals love orange, grapefruit, or even a mix of both!
Take a taxi… on the water!
The mode of transportation closest to the hearts of Charm City residents is the Water Taxi. It can take you to all of the neighborhoods surrounding the Baltimore Harbor. As you cruise through the sea, you’ll have a full 360 degree view of some of the city’s most prized landmarks such as the Dominos Sugar Factory (get a whiff of that sweet smell!), the National Aquarium, and Under Armour HQ.
Get Your Hands Dirty at the Baltimore Museum of Industry
Filled with history and fun activities, the Baltimore Museum of Industry houses 18th and 19th century machinery that aided workers during the Industrial Revolution. You’ll be able to use some machines first-hand as well as learn how to shuck oysters – a gem of the Chesapeake Bay! Bring the family, we have a Groupon! https://www.groupon.com/deals/baltimore-museum-of-industry-3
Climb to the top of Federal Hill
You experienced amazing views by water, now stand at the top of the hill and really take in the picture perfect panoramic of the city skyline. Hill-goers enjoy romantic strolls as well as playtime on the swings!
Crab Feast Dinner
It doesn’t get anymore Baltimore than this, hon. Nab a ride and head on over to Dundalk, a no-frills classically blue collar neighborhood, for some of the best crustaceans around! At Maryland Blue Crab Crab House, you’ll get a feel for the authentic Baltimore experience. And lucky for you, there’s a Groupon for that!
